My hooker days are over as Ripper Street's Rose changes her life, says Charlene

SHE played a gobby prostitute in series one of Ripper Street.

But Monaghan actress Charlene McKenna says her hooker days are behind her.

The 28-year-old actress starts filming series two next week but says Rose is a changed woman.

"Rose goes down a different career path. In the last series I started leaving that behind. So she's not on the game anymore," she laughs.

"I'm really happy with the scripts," Charlene continued. "Rose follows her dreams and there are a lot of changes for her. "I have to go and do some special classes in preparation, but that's all I'm saying."

The petite actress is currently flitting between Dublin and London and says she can't wait to get back on set in Dublin's Clancy Barracks.

"I'm chomping at the bit. The stable's getting too small," she jokes. "I just want to get at it."

While she may be looking forward to reuniting with her cast mates, Charlene is in no hurry to get back in those restrictive corsets.

"It is so painful wearing the corsets everyday," added Charlene who was speaking at the Bloomsday Bike Rally launch in association with Brennan's Bread.

"When I take it off, I have red marks all down my back. And my corset is loose because I'm not overly ample. But there are definitely woozy moments.

"But my cast mate Myanna Buring, who plays Long Susan, has much more upfront and she has difficulty catching her breath," she laughs.

Charlene will be busy filming until August and then it's back to London.

"After Ripper Street I start working with Richard Eyre on Henrik Ibsen's Ghosts. And I'm in that till the end of November.

"So I can have a panic attack around Christmas about what I'll do after that," she jokes.
