Mum and gran join chef Donal in his TV kitchen

KITCHEN hero Donal Skehan is set to cook for his biggest fans -- his mum and granny.

Celebrity chef Donal will be rustling up the grub for his two favourite women when his RTE show returns in September.

"I've no harsher critics than mum and my gran, so it was logical to include them in the show."

"It was hilarious recording, they were slightly stunned, but we really enjoyed it -- it's given my gran a whole new lease of life," Donal told the Herald.

The popular cookery show -- which aired on RTE Two earlier this year -- was a huge hit with female viewers.

"It's a big compliment obviously, I've had a few marriage proposals since the show -- mostly from 16-year-old Jedward fans or grandmothers, it's very funny."

Donal is serving up a mix of dishes in each of the coming seven episodes, to inspire and encourage what he calls regular cooks.

Before becoming Ireland's answer to Jamie Oliver, the Howth local started out with thegoodmoodfoodblog.com in 2007.

Now with a cookbook and a successful TV series under his belt, Donal is setting his sights on the UK, where he is currently enjoying a regular summer slot on ITV's This Morning.

"Yesterday was my third time over there and we got great feedback."

"I cooked a smoked salmon dish and Eamonn Holmes loved it," Donal laughed.

"London would be a great move, a natural step for me -- I've loved my work with ITV and I'd like to pursue that further."

Food lovers can see Donal in Kitchen Hero on RTE One at 8.30pm, from September 5.
