Mullen is the new Lord of the Dance

MOVE over Michael Flately, Stuart Mullen is the new Lord of the Dance! St Oliver Plunkett's hurler Stuart Mullen and dance partner Roisín Lyons were crowned 'Jig Factor' champions as the Navan Road club kicked off its 50th anniversary celebrations in spectacular style last Friday night with a highly popular 'Jig Factor'.

The Jig Factor, sponsored by Aviva, packed the club to the rafters - creating a superb atmosphere (check out on youtube) - as 11 club members exhibited their Irish dancing skills with a public vote deciding the winners.

On a superbly run night a sell out audience of over 700 got terrific value for their money as 11 champion Irish dancers teamed up with 11 'celebrities' (mostly club members). Each couple performed a three-minute dance routine with Stuart Mullen (senior hurler) and Roisín Lyons finishing as winners, Dave Sweeney (senior footballer) and Lorraine Deegan were 'highly commended' with other local 'celebs' like Paul Fogarty (junior Footballer), Amanda Deegan and Kevin Brogan (retired footballer) hot on their heels.

Jim Liston and Elaine Carmody won the prize for the most sponsorship raised before the event and also raised the roof when they danced to the sound track Grease.

Eddie Byrne & Niamh Croffy won the most votes on the night. Shane Dunne the youngest contestant (senior Footballer, (U21 dual player) and his dance partner, Ciara Eglington, were very popular with the younger audience. Mary Fitzpatrick (FF County Councillor) the only female celebrity danced to Elevation with her brilliant dance partner Shane Fagan.

Michael Lacey and Eimear Monaghan and Ambrose Curry and Aisling Carolan the other dancers also set very high standards with their performances.

The Jig Factor Committee headed by Noirín Boland and Paul Dunne were delighted with the success of the night.
