Mary back at Tesco ... but just to pay a visit to pals

X Factor star Mary Byrne returned to her old Tesco till today but insisted she wasn't back for good.

Mary (51) travelled home to Ballyfermot where she caught up with her former co-workers and signed autographs for fans.

One Tesco worker revealed how her visit had caused a stir among fans who gathered outside the shop, but the real celebrations took place inside in the staff canteen.

"She met with her friends in the canteen privately to celebrate, because many wouldn't have seen her for 12 weeks," they added.

But the new star didn't ignore her fans, taking the time to stand for photos, sign autographs and chat with those who came to wish her well.

Mary has not yet handed in her notice at Tesco, according to her colleagues, but managers don't expect her to return to work because she'll soon be starting the X Factor Tour.

Mary told the Herald: "I'm really looking forward to a quiet Christmas with my daughter and family. I'm really excited about 2011 and I can't wait to go on the X Factor Tour and see what the year holds for me."

The Dublin mum will appear on this Friday's Late Late Show where she'll give her first Irish TV interview since the X Factor Final.

Meanwhile, Mary who suffered from homesickness during X Factor, has confirmed that she will become a godmother after a family member put off a christening so that she could attend.
