Martha goes from catwalk queen to panto queen

CATWALK queen Martha Christie, is going back to her roots in performing arts and is starring as Princess Jasmine in The Helix's Christmas panto Aladdin.

"I've always been involved in music and acting, it's my passion," said Martha, who started out as a classically trained musician and has appeared in productions of Les Miserables.

The beauty, who traditionally returns to her native country for four months every year, was packing her bags when she was called up to join the cast of the show.

"I'd never stay unless it was something big to keep me here, so when this came up I jumped at the chance." She has been busy rehearsing for over a month and is looking forward to taking four days off to enjoy the festive holidays with her loved ones.

The model (31), who worked the runway for world-renowned designers, including Victoria Beckham, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana, revealed to the Herald that she intended to continue working in the business, in spite of the country's fascination with press-call types. "There is more of a market for bikini-style work, but the high-fashion industry is very strong here, too," said the model, who has lived here for 13 years.

Aladdin kicked off at The Helix yesterday and will run until January 15 next year.
