Maria commits to a grilling on TV sofa

ACTRESS and singer Maria Doyle Kennedy will be giving a rare TV interview this weekend.

The Diary can reveal how the former Commitments star will appear on the Saturday Night Show to speak about her recent acting projects.

She has been moving in all the right circles of late, having appeared in hit period drama show Downton Abbey in the part of John Bates' wife Vera.

The mum-of-four also had a major role in the mini-series Titanic and released an album last September called Sing, which went to No 4 in the Irish charts.

Also appearing on the show will be former British MP Edwina Currie, who'll reveal all about her relationship with the disgraced Jimmy Savile. She was Junior Minister with responsibility for Broadmoor Hospital, the same facility which gave the late presenter the run of the place.

And she's determined to set the record straight on a number of issues as the controversy continues to rumble over Savile's litany of abuse.

"She wants to clarify a number of issues, including reports that she appointed him to the management committee of the hospital," said a source. "She could have gone to dinner with him in the past but always maintains that she found him very creepy."

Last weekend X Factor reject Frankie Cocozza appeared on the show, where he turned the air blue with an expletive-filled rant, insisting he was encouraged to act the part of the wild child and go clubbing while he was a hopeful on the talent contest.
