Let's back Flatley's Cliffs campaign

What makes someone take an interest in their environment, their town and this planet? It's so easy to think that environmental issues have no impact on our lives, and no one is going to die if we don't recycle our bottles, or if we shove some food into the green bin.

It takes a very special person to see beyond their small lives and commit any time or effort into anything environmentally beneficial.

There's not a lot to love about Prince Charles, and the British royal family have played no part in improving my life, but at least he gives a damn about the planet. He was mocked for years about his passion for green issues, but today his dogged conviction has won him respect.

Someone else who has surprised me with their interest in the environment this week is Michael Flatley. Mr Lord Of The Dance is campaigning to get the Cliffs of Moher named as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

He plans to put on two shows on the cliffs as part of this campaign.

This project was initially set up in 2007, and it's claimed that 100 million votes were cast to choose seven new wonders. So, for 2011, you can imagine what the Cliffs of Moher are up against -- The Grand Canyon, The Dead Sea and Uluru (Ayers Rock).

I just think fair play to you, Michael.

This wealthy man is putting himself out, for us. So that the world will see that we have one of the most beautiful, scenic pieces of landscape.

It takes someone very special to give a damn about our environment, because what you reap is for others, not for yourself. 11/11/11 is the voting day to make The Cliffs of Moher one of the New Seven Wonders. Let's get behind this -- if he can be bothered, so can we.
