Keith sings praises of his generous pal

Boyzone star Keith Duffy has paid tribute to Niall Horan after the young pop sensation offered to hold a charity bash on his birthday.

Keith, whose daughter Mia (12) has autism, had been organising last night's gala dinner and golf classic in aid of the Irish Autism Action in Mullingar for months.

The big draw for the event was always intended to be the One Direction star, who is from the midlands town.

But the Boyzone man's plans hit a snag when he learned the hotel wasn't available on the preferred date for the bash.

Instead, it was organised for the day of Niall's 19th birthday.

But, according to Keith, the young singer -- who has won the hearts of many teenage girls -- willingly offered to celebrate his birthday at the event.

The Boyzone star told the Herald: "As a father of a beautiful little girl with autism, I'd like to say thank you to Niall for giving me his birthday so freely for this.

"Niall was on board from day one. We were supposed to do it tonight, but the hotel wasn't available. And so he said 'let's do it on my birthday'. With support from people like Niall Horan and big stars, it keeps us going."
