Keane and Claudine kick off new life in style

LA Galaxy's newest recruit Robbie Keane got to see first hand what the Beach Boys meant when they sang "I wish they all could be California girls".

The 31-year-old Irish skipper took time out to meet some of his new fans before dusting off the jetlag to kit out for his first training session at his new club yesterday.

While wife Claudine Palmer made her preparations for celebrity life in the sun, Robbie posed for pictures with delighted fans.

The former Spurs striker told a press conference that he was looking forward to the Stateside challenge.

"I'm not here for holidays, I am here to play football. Everything else aside from that is irrelevant and it always has been. It was time for a new challenge."

His new stadium -- the Home Depot -- was decked out in tricolour balloons to help him feel at home.

Robbie laughed off suggestions that his LA move would affect his place in Giovanni Trapattoni's side.

"Throughout my career I've always been 100pc committed to Ireland and that won't change. I'm with the Galaxy and I'm 100pc committed to them and then when I'm with Ireland likewise."

The Tallaght man -- who is set to scoop ¤8m with the club over the next two years -- was accompanied by his new team mates, David Beckham and Landon Donovan.

He and Claudine (28) are already said to be planning social nights out with Beckham and wife Victoria, who moved to LA four years ago.

And the Beckhams may well introduce the Irish couple to some of their famous friends -- Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, and Will Smith and wife Jada. Former England star Beckham remarked: "Everyone loves the Irish, so we're glad to have him here."

And he backed his new teammate to remain at the helm of the Irish national side.

"Obviously the travel is difficult. I sacrificed my body and my physical side to do that, but you do it.

"Robbie is going to go back to back to the Irish side."

Keane is gearing up for his debut appearance today against San Jose Earthquakes.

He has been presented with the Number 14 jersey by LA Galaxy boss Bruce Arena. But while he took time out to meet fans in sunny California, his model wife kept a low profile.

As Robbie donned his new team strip, Claudine spent her first morning in LA being pampered and preened.

The 27-year-old mum-of-one stayed inside the hotel, living it up in the lap of luxury. She booked herself in for a shampoo and style at the five-star downtown Ritz Carlton. She was seen being given a personal tour of the hotel by a concierge before taking it easy in a new foot spa -- the hotel's top end package costs $400 for four hours of treatment.
