Kathryn's northside operation

RTE presenter Kathryn Thomas will be zooming out to the northside this week for the launch of the new Audi showroom. The Operation Transformation frontwoman will be taking centre stage at the invitation-only bash as she helps celebrate the opening of the new venue at North Park in Dublin 11.

Many of the usual social suspects have been invited to attend the bash on Friday. It also features a special appearance from an "Audi sports icon" amid much speculation as to whether a member of the Irish rugby team will be popping in.

•THE party people will be raising a glass at the Porterhouse Central this evening for the start of Oktoberfest. Attendees will be joining in the raucous celebration of all things German as they quaff German beer along with traditional Bavarian nibbles and enjoy entertainment. Company owner Oliver Hughes is expected to be welcoming in guests alongside PR girl Fiona Roche, with the festival running until October 25. This is the third Oktoberfest in the capital in the last few weeks, with the first taking place in the Mansion House followed by a second one in the IFSC Docklands area.

•IT'S the city centre restaurant that he set up with Joe Macken. So it makes sense for Ireland rugby player Jamie Heaslip to choose his South William Street eatery Bear as the venue for his photocall today. The Leinster star will be turning on the smiles for the cameras this afternoon to mark his appointment as an ambassador for South African company FirstCape wine. He's in good company too -- another representative is none other than Lions legend Ian McGeechan.

•IT will be handbags at dawn this weekend as a host of celebrities head down to Cork to battle it out in a unique challenge. Five personalities have signed up to take part in the Battle of the Celebrity Commentators, which will be staged at Curraheen Park this Saturday. The Apprentice star Brian Purcell will fight it out with celebs like singer Carol Anthony and Mary Burke from Crystal Swing.

The overall winner will go home with a cool €1,000 for the charity of their choice, while judging them on the night will be TV3's Trevor Welch and Curraheen Park's regular commentator Sarina O'Day. There's also a prize up for grabs for the Best Dressed Couple.
