Kathryn ditches her training for dream Ibiza trip

RTE presenter Kathryn Thomas won't have much time to prepare for her upcoming Ironman triathlon in Galway, given that she will by jetting to Ibiza just days beforehand.

The chatty Carlow broadcaster explained how she and her garda beau, Enda Waters, are planning a romantic getaway to the Spanish party island prior to her participation in the challenge alongside fellow broadcaster Grainne Seoige and celebrity trainer Paul Byrne's wife, Siobhan.

The intense relay challenge consists of a 1.9km swim, followed by a 90km cycle ride and a 21.1km run, with Kathryn due to complete the run.

"The thing is the Ironman happens on the fourth of September and I am planning a little trip to Ibiza before that.

"I get back on the second and I'm doing John Murray's radio show on the fifth so I'll be lucky if I have a voice at all," she laughed.

Enda is currently working on night duty, with the RTE star explaining that they haven't been doing too much socialising together as a result.

Next month will see the star return to the small screen to co-host Winning Streak alongside Marty Whelan.

The presenter is also looking forward to getting her teeth stuck into another series of weight-loss programme Operation Transformation.

"We're in the middle of the six months on stage at the moment," she explained. "We're delighted with the results."
