Show-jumper Cian O'Connor has popped the question to his girlfriend Ruth Maybin, the Diary can reveal.
The talented rider -- who once dated TV presenter Rachel Wyse -- is believed to have surprised his fiancee with a romantic proposal at their home in Co Meath before taking off to participate in the Nations Cup in Gijon, Spain, last weekend.
Now the O'Connor household has two weddings to look forward to, with Cian's model sister Pippa to tie the knot next year. But Pippa is adamant there will be no double wedding for her and her high-profile sibling.
The Assets beauty, engaged to her longtime beau Brian Ormond, was remaining unusually tight-lipped about her brother's good news when contacted by the Diary, insisting that she could not discuss the sportsman's recent engagement.
Pippa (26) explained how Cian prefers to keep his private life out of the limelight and will discuss his forthcoming nuptials in his own time. And while Pippa admits she is delighted for her older brother -- who was dealt a cruel blow in 2002 when his then girlfriend Hazel O'Callaghan died tragically in an accident -- she would not be drawn on any of the details of his love life.
"I can't say anything about it, but no there definitely won't be any double wedding," she laughed.
"Our own plans are very much in the early stages. We're going to London later this month as Brian has some work over there, so I might have a browse around then.
"We're also going to New York next month, so I'll have the chance to do some shopping while I'm there," she added. Pippa and her TV presenter other half are due to enjoy an all-expenses-paid holiday to the Big Apple alongside RTE star Derek Mooney and a number of other media personalities, when the National Lottery fly a host of lucky gameshow winners Stateside as part of their Big Money to the Big Apple game.
Before then, the busy model will lend her support to the Miss Ireland finals, which take place on September 18 at the D4 Berkeley Court hotel, given that she and Brian have previously judged the event.
The official launch party for this year's contest, which is now being run by BScene agency bosses Sean Montague and Brendan Scully, took place last night at Buck's Townhouse on Leeson Street.
The glitzy bash was hosted by reigning Mr World Kamal Ibrahim.
In addition to a selection of the gorgeous girls due to go head to head to take the crown this year, other big names spotted enjoying the festivities included former Miss World Rosanna Davison, one of this year's judges Virginia Macari, model mum Gillian Quinn, Michele McGrath, Hayley Rock and former Apprentice star Geraldine O'Callaghan, to name but a few.
