I've never seen X Factor, says Snow Patrol's Gary

THE lead singer of Snow Patrol, Gary Lightbody, has admitted he has never watched the X Factor, even though contestants every year choose to sing one of their best-selling hits.

Speaking at an exclusive Dublin gig last night, the Irish singer told the audience that he has never once seen the show.

During a Q&A session with the small crowd, a fan asked how it felt to see hundreds of X Factor contestants singing his own songs, to which Gary replied: "I don't know because I don't watch the show, I never do."

When further probed, a fan asked what he thought of X Factor winner Leona Lewis's version of Run, which made it to the number-one spot, and Gary simply replied with a shrug and shook his head.

Gary (35) made the comments while playing an intimate gig at the Button Factory in Temple Bar last night.

Snow Patrol played their biggest classics including Just Say Yes and Open Your Eyes, as well as their newest tracks including their current hit single, Called Out In The Dark.

Hardcore Irish fans had to enter competitions online through Meteor's social networking sites as part of this year's Meteor Choice Music Prize.

Last night fans from Belfast, Limerick, Cork and Dublin got the chance to be up close and personal with the band.

But the Northern Irish band members will be swapping an acoustic set for a massive live set in front of more than 20,000 fans in the new year.

The band will take to the stage at The O2 Arena in Dublin on January 20 and an extra date -- January 21 -- has been added due to the massive demand.
