DUBLIN'S Shelbourne Hotel is remaining tight-lipped over speculation it will host US First Lady Michelle Obama next month.

The Shelbourne said it "cannot give out any information" when asked if the Ms Obama and her two daughters, Malia (14) and Sasha (12), had booked rooms in the hotel.

Ms Obama is due to come here while her husband, President Barack Obama, attends the G8 summit in Northern Ireland.

When the couple visited Ireland two years ago, Ms Obama promised to return with her daughters.

More than 30 rooms in the five-star Shelbourne have been booked for the First Lady, her staff and security personnel, according to a report.

She is to stay in the €2,500-a-night Princess Grace Suite, which is undergoing extensive refurbishment ahead of the trip, while Malia and Sasha will have adjoining suites, it added.

When asked about the report, a manager at the five-star Shelbourne said: "I can't give out any information. I can't comment on anything, I'm afraid."

The Princess Grace Suite is the hotel's elite presidential suite, consisting of two bedrooms and is the best room available at the St Stephen's Green hotel.

Former US President Bill Clinton stayed in the Shelbourne when he visited Dublin in 2010, sending the hotel into near lockdown as US secret service agents swarmed the area.

During the visit, Mr Clinton was joined for dinner in the Princess Grace Suite by ex-British prime minister Tony Blair and Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams.

The G8 summit of world leaders is to take place at the Lough Erne Hotel and golf resort in Fermanagh on June 17 and 18.

President Obama, British prime minister David Cameron, President Vladimir Putin of Russia and German chancellor Angela Merkel will all attend.

The other members of the G8 group are France, Italy, Canada and Japan.

It is not yet known how long Mrs Obama will stay in Ireland. So far, the White House has only said that details of her travel plans will be forthcoming.

She is expected to return to her husband's ancestral home in Moneygall, Co Offaly, where the couple visited in 2011.

Henry Healy, President Obama's distant cousin, has said Moneygall will "welcome the First Lady and her daughters" should they decide to put the village on the agenda this summer.
