I'm devastated. We met just last week and spoke of Gerry Ryan - Twink

Twink enjoyed a drink with her friend Mick Lally just days before his death, she has revealed.

The stage star (59) said she is "devastated" after hearing the news of his tragic passing.

"I'm absolutely gutted. I only met him a week ago at a theatre event. He was in great form and had a few jars," she told the Herald.

The actress (inset right) met Mick in the capital and she said he gave no indication that he was feeling unwell, despite being admitted to hospital just a few days later.

"He was actually more concerned about me because he knew about my asthma. We got talking about Gerry Ryan and he expressed to me that I was the first person he thought of when he heard the sad news of Gerry's passing. He said he was shocked when Gerry died and that he was too young to die and I was telling him how I still talk to Gerry every day and I look at his picture in my kitchen."

The actress had been friends with Mick for more than a decade and has worked with his daughter Saileog in the past.

"We all know each other here because the industry is so small. Mick was a larger than life character and he was a fabulous actor. He will be greatly missed. I am devastated for his family.

"I gave his daughter a job in a Panto years ago when she was a young girl," she added.

Talent

"We have lost one of our best talents. And Mick was only 64 so he was just really coming into his own in terms of taking on great character roles. It's a great tragedy.

"He was very well known from Glenroe but he was a very fine stage actor and will be sorely missed," she added.
