I won't put career on hold when baby arrives says Leigh

LEIGH Arnold is determined not to let motherhood get in the way of her career.

The former Clinic star has vowed to continue perusing her acting dreams after she takes on her new role of motherhood in the New Year.

The star, who's engaged to businessman Steve Davies, right, is now more than 20 weeks pregnant with her first baby and said everything's going great.

"I'm loving every second of it. I'm half way there and I'm hoping to be back in the acting saddle soon after," the 32-year-old told the Diary. She hinted that she could even be writing a children's book once she's able to draw on some first-hand experience in 2012.

Leigh has also been busy promoting an independent movie to get a cinema release in the UK in 2012 after a deal was sealed with a distributor.

And she had a nail-biting wait last night after Terry McMahon's film was screened to members of the Irish Film and TV Awards at the UCG on Parnell Street.

The organisation will now vote on whether or not to put it through for the 2012 awards, hailed as Ireland's answer to the Oscars.

That means Leigh could be in with a shout in one of the eight different categories, namely the Best Actress in a Supporting Role award. Her co-star, Hollyoaks hunk Emmett Scanlan, could also be in the running for the Best Actor award.

Journey

"It's been an incredible journey and is winning awards and getting critical acclaim all over the place at international film festivals. It's brilliant that the Irish Film Board have given us such great support," Leigh explained.

"To be recognised by your peers for your work is the greatest compliment anyone could have. It's so exciting as we all worked so hard at getting this low budget movie out there and we got the amazing news this week that Optimum Films and Studio Canal has picked it up which is huge. It's all very exciting."

The top beauty is now based over in Manchester after leaving here nearly a year ago. But she's looking forward to catching up with friends and her tight-knit family when she returns home to Dublin to spend Christmas here.

Hailing from a well-known south Dublin family, her sister Chloe is a top model who's dating musician Justin Manville.

She got engaged last September after her other half went down on bended knee during a weekend visit to Ireland. Leigh hasn't booked any venues yet but indicated that she would love to have an intimate ceremony sometime next year.
