I still battle with stage fright at 74, admits star Redgrave

Vanessa Redgrave has admitted that she still suffers from nerves despite years of stage experience.

The actress (74) has just reprised her role in the play Driving Miss Daisy after it transferred from Broadway to the London stage. James Earl Jones, who voices the role of Darth Vader in the Star Wars films, and US actor Boyd Gaines also star in the play, at the Wyndham's Theatre.

Redgrave admitted: "You never know quite with stage fright, you can be dancing along and suddenly it's 'oh, where are my friends? Are you still there?'

"It depends. It comes and goes. You never know."

But she added: "Each night I get the least nerves I've ever had because I feel we're in a fantastic thing together...we're a team and an ensemble."
