THE daughter of singer Christy Dignam has revealed how she considered calling off her wedding if her father had been too sick to attend.
Instead, Kiera Dignam said she would have chosen a blessing by his bedside.
Overjoyed that her father, who is battling cancer, will be able to walk her up the aisle on Saturday, the 26-year-old said earlier this year she and fiance Darren Moran had considered cancelling their big day.
"We didn't speak about the wedding for a while; as far as we were concerned, there wasn't going to be one if dad wasn't there.
"If things had been really bad, we would have called it off and asked the priest to come to the hospital and give us the blessing beside his bed.
"This is a day we thought would never happen."
Fans are also expected at the service in Our Lady Help Of Christians church on the Navan Road this Saturday at 2pm.
However Kiera asked anyone attending to respect her sick dad.
"If Aslan fans want to share this with us, that's fine, as long as they remember that dad is very sick."
Kiera revealed that Bono spent two hours with Christy at his home last week ahead of U2 covering Aslan song This Is from their New York studio, a performance beamed into the Night For Christy concert in Olympia last Friday.
"Bono came to support dad and also to ask him about the lyrics.
"He wanted to know everything about the song before he sang it. U2 did a brilliant version which my dad found very moving," she said.
The mother-of-two, who also performed at the fundraiser, said she had seen both artists and audience members weeping openly when her dad took to the stage at the end of the night to sing Crazy World.
"It was very touching to see how much love there is out there for dad.
"We want to thank everyone who made it happen. Dad was absolutely exhausted by the end and went straight home."
