I hope Barry can make history at Cheltenham and retain the Gold Cup

ONE of the biggest events on the racing calendar takes place today – the Cheltenham Gold Cup – so I am really looking forward to the excitement that always brings.

Barry won the Gold Cup on Bobs Worth last year, so hopefully he can do it again, though to even win it once is a dream come true.

Barry has a special connection to Bobs Worth because he owned him as a young horse before he and his brother Norman sold him to trainer Nicky Henderson.

It's a dream to sell a young horse and to have him go on and win the Gold Cup, so last year was amazing, and anything after that is just a bonus.

Barry has been having a great week and did really well to win the Ladbrokes World Hurdle yesterday and the Champion Hurdle, the main race, on Tuesday.

One of the girls here joked that Barry is clocking up the wins for the English trainers, so I just laughed at that.

I do love seeing Irish wins, and it would be great to see AP McCoy have a good week as he has had a tough time lately.

He has done well this week, and his young son Archie was really ill in hospital, so that puts things into perspective.

He is out of hospital now and we have heard he is doing really well, which is great. He is a gorgeous little fella.

SAFE

It was horrible to watch this week when Bryan Cooper had a bad fall and broke his leg in two places – that something like that can happen is always at the back of your mind.

Our thoughts are also with JT McNamara and his family after the horrible injury he sustained here last year.

It is very frightening, and although I really enjoy racing, the main thing you are always conscious of is that they are going to get home safe.

Myself and Barry arrived in Cheltenham on Monday evening after flying over and renting a car.

We are staying a good bit away from the racetrack in a place called Montpelier where we take an apartment every year, so it's nice to have your own comfort, and there are some lovely restaurants and shops really close by.
