I almost broke law to nab Ron, says Katherine

Popular comedian Katherine Lynch's exclusive airtime with hunky Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo ensured her new RTE series got off to a flying start.

The popular star, who braved a brush with the law to nab some time alone with the Portuguese player, says evading the authorities was worth it as the first programme of the series, which aired this week, recorded a 29pc audience share.

The quirky series, which airs at 10.50pm on Tuesdays, attracted an impressive 370,000 viewers on its first outing, with Katherine claiming the Ronaldo gag made the show.

Katherine began her quest by turning a few heads at the friendly game between Shamrock Rovers and Real Madrid at Tallaght stadium last July, when she debuted her wannabe WAG character, Sile Zeta Jones, in a revealing red dress and black wig.

The comic fulfilled every woman's fantasy when she managed to get to grips with Ronaldo, after dodging a number of security guards and sneaking into the luxury grounds of Carton House Hotel in Maynooth, where the team was staying.

"It was fantastic getting Ronaldo, it really made it [the show]," she told the Herald.

"I did have to almost break the law but it was worth it, it's always worth it when you get great material like that.

"I can't say too much about it because I had loads of help from some of the Sky camera crews and from security guards and things like that."

In another unusual twist, Katherine decided to feature her own mother in a scene, alongside long-time character, Liz Hurley.

The Leitrim native explained how she had to get a body double for part of the scene, which required her mum to audition for a naked calendar shoot.

The sequence also sees Katherine strip off for a variety of revealing poses, covering her assets with nothing more than two footballs at one point.

Speaking about posing for the nude shots, Katherine says she was extremely nervous about the scenes going to air.

"It was a real warts and all moment for me.

"I think I definitely deserve to be heavily air-brushed in some future photoshoot after doing that.

"I was a bit horrified about the whole country seeing it to be honest -- I was trying to persuade the love interest not to watch it.

"But I got lots of texts and phone calls congratulating me so it can't have been too bad," she said.
