Heavyweights to grace the capital in 'thinking' festival

MEDIA heavyweights Jon Snow, Robert Fisk and Alastair Campbell have been lined up to take part in a new festival in Dublin next month.

MindField is being described as 'the thinking person's festival' and focuses on the spoken word in debate, poetry and theatre.

Tony Blair's former head of communications, Alastair Campbell, is set to chair a debate with Eamon Dunphy and former rugby international Denis Hickie on the politics and ethics of sport.

Meanwhile news anchor Jon Snow (right) will take part in a discussion on new media, with foreign correspondent Robert Fisk and political columnist Rachel Marsden.

MindField will have a proper urban festival feel with outdoor markets, food stalls, speakers' corner and free activities.

A separate festival focusing on live rock, street theatre and healing arts will take place in Ballinlough Castle, Co Westmeath.

Acts such as Four Tet and Jape and Crystal Fighters have been lined up for the festival, between June 19 and 20.

Tickets for both events go on sale this weekend from Ticketmaster, with some events priced between €5 and €30 for the spoken word festival in the Pod complex.
