Grease's star Jeff Conaway fights for his life after freak fall

Jeff Conoway, who starred as Kenickie in the hit film Grease, is fighting for his life after suffering a brain haemorrhage and broken bones in a freak fall.

The 59-year-old actor, who played Danny Zuko's sidekick in the 1978 blockbuster musical, was rushed to an LA hospital and underwent emergency surgery after mysteriously tumbling down a flight of stairs at his home.

His girlfriend, Vicky Lizzi, said he suffered a brain haemorrhage, a broken hip and a fractured neck in the fall and said the troubled celebrity feared his injuries could be fatal.

"Jeff thinks these are his final days," she told E! News, the US Gossip website. "The story is very complicated, which is why I have to tell it."

The cause of the fall was unclear. Mr Conaway was most recently seen on the US TV show Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew, in which he disclosed that he was addicted to cocaine and painkillers and said he had considered suicide in the past.

He told a doctor: "I see myself breaking that mirror and slicing my throat with it."

The actor married his fellow Grease star Olivia Newton-John's sister in1980, but the marriage fell apart five years later as he struggled with drug addiction.

He also appeared in the sci-fi series Babylon 5 and the comedy series Taxi.
