Grainne’s back of the class

IT'S Grainne Seoige's first day but she's already been banished to the back of the class photo.

The RTE presenter has signed up to be features editor on new ITV programme, Daybreak, but will have to take a backseat along with other roaming reporters, as shown in promotional photos.

Grainne is used to soaking up the limelight, presenting a number of shows solo on Irish TV and heading up a reporting team. But now that she's joined the ranks of British television, Grainne will have to step aside for glamorous Christine Bleakly and her co-presenter Adrian Chiles.

The RTE star was a hit with viewers when she filled in for Kate Garraway, co-presenting with John Stapleton.

Grainne (36) put her versatile talent to good use and tackled everything from cookery tips to the crisis in Pakistan, but admitted that she is nervous to find out her son Conall's reaction to the show.

"He doesn't beat around the bush, if I'm rubbish then he will say it," she said. "He's my toughest critic and that's a good thing. He'll be tuning in on Monday morning and there will be a text from him as soon as I come off air and that's the comment that will mean the most to me."

Grainne is staying at a London hotel while she makes the transition to ITV. She has plans to commute to London for the new gig as she continues to front the All Ireland Talent Show here.
