FORMER Podge and Rodge host Virginia Macari has laughed off rumours that her sister Sonya has become the latest Italian belle to fall for the charms of Hollywood hunk George Clooney.
Sonya, who previously starred in the Tudors, set tongues wagging in Tinseltown recently when she was pictured alongside the Up in the Air actor at the Writers' Guild of America.
However Virginia was quick to explain that the pair are merely friendly through the LA social scene and regularly bump into one another at glitzy red-carpet events.
The Celebrity Salon star went on to tell the Diary how Sonya is more loved up than ever with her Irish fiance Colin Devlin, as they prepare to walk down the aisle early next year.
The talented singer, who is the brother of Lorraine Keane's musician hubby Peter, popped the question to his girlfriend of over ten years last September.
And with Sonya's Hollywood career steadily on the rise, Virginia is keeping her fingers crossed that George, who is currently dating Italian model Elisabetta Canalis, will be on the guest list.
The dishy actor's friendship with her gorgeous half Italian/half Irish sister dates back to 2007, when the actress attended a star-studded function where the former ER actor was honoured with a Cinematheque Award.
"She's met George a few times alright and gets on really well with him but there's definitely no more to it than that," Virginia explained.
"I think she would be his type because apparently he loves dark haired girls but she only has eyes for Colin.
"They're planning the wedding for sometime early next year. I'm sure if George wanted to come he'd be more than welcome.
"If that happens though she'll have to share him with me. He's absolutely gorgeous."
The fashion designer turned TV star went on to explain how her starlet sister had just landed a small part in big budget blockbuster Water For Elephants.
The role will see Sonya join a stellar cast including Twilight star Robert Pat-tinson, Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz.
Prior to this Sonya had impressed with her role alongside Lost star Eric Lange in Hollywood Sci-fi movie Protocol. "She started working on Water For Elephants in May and she's really enjoying it," Virginia explained.
"She's been getting on really well with all the cast members and we're all thrilled for her because she works really really hard and deserves this break.
"I can't see her and Colin coming home anytime soon. They love it over there and love the lifestyle.
"It wouldn't be for me at all to be honest because I think it's just too far away but I can see why it's attractive," she added.
Virginia meanwhile will be noticeably absent from the social scene later this month when she and her Norwegian music mogul beau Kaste Dahl take off to visit some of her relatives in Italy.
The couple, who share a luxurious home in Sutton, had originally been planning to spend a month in their home away from home of Marbella in Spain, but have since changed their minds.
