HE has starred in some of the world's biggest dramas, from Love/Hate to smash hit shows The Wire and Game of Thrones but actor Aidan Gillen went back to his native roots for his latest role – in an independent music video.

The Dubliner was approached by fellow actor Hugh O'Connor, to take on the main role for the video of local country roots band, I Draw Slow's new single.

"Myself and Hugh wanted to shoot an animation video for the single, but that ended up falling apart right," band member Colin Derham told the Diary.

"We had no budget for the video so we were delighted that Aidan agreed to do it just because he had interest in it."

The actor who is known for his bad boy roles was up to his usual antics and grabs his girlfriend by the throat in the video. He stars alongside I Draw Slow's lead singer Louise Holden, who stars as his frustrated paramour.

"It was really surreal shooting with him . . . he had a very red cheek by the end of it," she told Diary.

I Draw Slow's new single, Valentine, will be released just in time for Valentine's Day tomorrow, while their album, White Wave Chapel, is due for release on February 21.
