Gervais in stand-up tour of the world

Ricky Gervais's global domination continues - the comedy star has announced his first world tour.

The Office actor (48) will perform stand-up gigs in around 20 countries.

Gervais made the announcement as he prepared to host the Golden Globes on Sunday, one of the biggest events in the US which pulls in around 300 million TV viewers.

He will bring the Ricky Gervais Live: Science tour to Wembley Arena in London, Madison Square Garden in New York and the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles following sell-out dates in Britain last year. No Irish dates have been announced.

Gervais said: "It's like a first comedy world tour.

"The Office has been shown in about 90 countries now. I'm not going to play 90 but I'll do about 20 countries. I'll do a few bigger gigs, arenas and stadiums.

"I'm just starting to enjoy it (stand-up) more and more. " On hosting the Golden Globes, he said: "I'm just going to go out there and have a go at the A-Listers. I think that's what is expected of me."
