Edward won't have time to put feet up

JEDWARD star Edward Grimes will finally undergo crucial leg surgery once the X Factor twins' Irish tour finishes at the end of the month.

However, the Herald can reveal that the quiff-haired teenager will be lucky if he manages to get a week off to recover from a crucial knee operation after tearing ligaments six weeks ago.

Doctors normally advise patients to take off three weeks in the wake of such a dramatic operation to allow for proper rehabilitation.

Edward (18) has been receiving treatment at the Santry Sports Clinic for the injury and has managed to complete the tour with the help of painkillers.

He and twin John's nationwide tour will finally finish on August 22 with a performance at the Waterfront in Belfast, with their British tour not scheduled to start until November 8 in Glasgow.

However, a source close to the chart-topping duo has revealed how the pair have such a busy schedule over the coming months that there's "no way" that Edward could take off nearly a month.

"He'll be lucky if he gets a week, to be honest with you. He has kept putting off this operation as they were in the middle of a sell out tour of Ireland and cancelling it was out of the question," he said.

"With an injury like this, you have to take it easy and rest it for the best part of the month. Otherwise it's something that could become chronic. But he's so determined that he doesn't want to let down his fans, he's just kept on going. His age is working in his favour though, as teenagers have a better recovery time than someone a bit older."

Although they have a break in their live touring, the twins have signed up to appear on a string of top TV shows across the water including Loose Women and Alan Carr's irreverent chat show.

They have also been busy filming two documentary-style programmes for RTE and ITV with a camera crew following them around all summer.

The accident happened during a performance at T4 On The Beach after Edward landed awkwardly during a stage jump, with him rushed to hospital for treatment.

The fall couldn't have come at a worse time for the twins, given they were in the middle of a blur of promotional commitments for new single All the Small Things, with their debut album Planet Jedward scoring a number one here.

In another blow for the accident-prone twins, this weeks saw Edward accidentally break his brother John's tooth when he smacked him with a microphone during a performance in Cork.

John will now have to have his front tooth capped when he gets a break in their gruelling schedule. This weekend sees them performing two dates in Killarney before they go to Galway and Letterkenny next week.

The cheeky duo sent their fans into a flutter recently after the posted topless pictures of themselves on their Twitter page. They have also vowed to shave off their trademark quiffs in a bid to keep their image fresh.

"We're going to have a change. Go to the barber's and get it all shaved off. We might get in trouble but we like breaking the rules all the time. We'll definitely do it," said John.
