Duffer aims to avoid too much fuss with an 'away' marriage

Soccer star Damien Duff looks set to hold his summer wedding across the water to "avoid all the fuss" it would cause here.

His best pal, Robbie Keane, tied the knot with Claudine in a relaxed ceremony at the Ritz Carlton in Wicklow 18 months ago and delighted fans by posing for shots outside the church.

However, Damien is thought to be seeking a more private ceremony when he ties the knot with his long-term other half Elaine.

"He doesn't really want to do the whole Irish castle wedding thing with all the big fuss that comes with it," said a close source.

"Damien just wants this happy event to be a very private, intimate occasion that he and Elaine can enjoy properly.

"He doesn't want to see it splashed all over the papers and it probably would be more low key if he had it in Britain.

"There's no chance of them doing any magazine deals or anything like that -- that's the last thing they would want."

The Fulham winger already shares a plush London pad with his brunette girlfriend, who he has been dating for nearly two years and friends say they are "completely smitten".

One of Ireland's most accomplished players, Duff was devastated when the boys in green lost their chance to go to this summer's World Cup after the controversial 'Hand Of Henry' incident.

But just a few weeks after suffering the huge setback, he was able to celebrate some good news after getting down on bended knee to Elaine just before Christmas.

Generous Duff presented her with a massive sparkler to seal the deal, with his overjoyed girlfriend saying 'yes' instantly.

And the pair wasted little time in planning their summer wedding, which is reportedly taking place this June at the same time as the World Cup kicks off in South Africa.

Ballinteer-born Duff rarely speaks about his personal life and it only emerged last year that he was in another relationship after splitting from his last girlfriend.

His last serious relationship was with Trinity graduate, medical doctor Eileen Flanagan, whom he dated for more than three years.

However, he has always steered well clear of any WAG-style glamour girls, given his choice of previous girlfriends.

The soccer star has always preferred to date quiet, down-to-earth beauties as opposed to the publicity seeking party girls.

A regular name on the list of Ireland's youngest millionaires, canny Duff has managed to avoid squandering a lot of his hard-earned cash in recent years.

Instead, he has ploughed much of his money into building up his property portfolio and overseas investments.
