Dragon is set to swap boardroom for kitchen

DRAGON'S Den star Sarah Newman is set to swap the boardroom for the kitchen next week when she appears on RTE's The Restaurant.

Since signing up to be a Dragon last year, Sarah has shot to national prominence as a tough-talking businesswoman.

And now the Dragon's fans will get the chance to see her softer side on The Restaurant.

The entrepreneur didn't disappoint when it came to choosing her menu, preparing a choice of fried prawns or mushroom ravioli for starters.

She offered a choice of pan-fried beef fillet in pancetta, with spinach, potato rosti and red wine jus, or seared cod fillet, crushed potato with scallions and horseradish cream.

To finish off she tried to impress the judging panel with lemon tart and blackberry ice cream, or rhubarb and ginger rice pudding.

Sarah explained how the majority of her ideas came from her family.

"There are certain things that I learned to cook from my mum and grandmother," she explained.

"I used to make shortbread with my nanny Gwen, she was a big influence on my life," she added.

Sarah (41) and her partner of six years, Kilkenny hurling legend DJ Carey, are expected to hold a low-key wedding ceremony later this year.

But the RTE star says she has no interest in having a big celebrity wedding.

"Watch this space," she told the Herald. "We have no definite plans yet but I have strong suspicions that we might just run off and get married in the mountains."

Sarah will take to the small screen for her spell in The Restaurant on Sunday, April 4 at 8.30pm.
