Des hunts famous ad starring his dad

COMEDIAN Des Bishop is on a hunt to find an original 1970s Blue Nun TV advertisement which starred his father, who has recently been diagnosed with cancer.

The Irish-based funnyman, who is on tour in Australia, revealed: "My dad was in a Blue Nun ad in the 70s. He asked the question 'Red or white darling?' and she replied, 'Blue!'"

Des (34) has so far drawn a blank after contacting the current manufacturers of the kitsch wine.

"They don't have archives as they bought the brand in 1995. The search continues," he said.

His American-based father, an Irish immigrant and a former manager of Burberry in New York, has been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.

Des has dedicated his latest tour, entitled My Dad Was Nearly James Bond, to his father, who lost out on the 007 role to George Lazenby.

"My dad's story is an interesting one, and I wanted to celebrate that," said Des, who was brought up in New York until the age of 12, but asked to be sent to St Peter's Boarding School in Wexford at 14.

"It was when my father came face to face with lung cancer that I realised exactly what a special agent he is," he said.

The In the Name Of The Fada star added: "When I found out the initial diagnosis, I was with my mother.

"I had to drag her outside the hospital and she was crying and I was holding her. And I just knew that your relationship changes at that moment. She was no longer my parent. You have to look after her."
