Day of celebration to inspire women to mark their life achievements

- AN international day of celebration will take place across the globe next month to inspire women to mark their life achievements.

Here in the capital, city council officials will celebrate the contribution of women to the civic life of Dublin with a special programme of events.

Kicking off proceedings on March 10 will be theatre director Michael Scott who will give a talk on the life and career of Anna Manahan, one of Ireland's most gifted actresses, at the Central Library in the ILAC centre at 1pm.

Manahan, who died on International Women's Day 2009, is also being honoured by a special exhibition.

Guests will celebrate the venue's first birthday, as well as being given a special sneak preview of the suite and its four new bars.

Among the featured rooms is an impressive Master Room, which includes two white granite bars, a glittering state-of-the-art LED dance floor and DJ booth.

Among those in attendance was Lord Mayor Emer Costello, Aidan Power, Ruth Scott, children's TV presenters Paddy McKenna, Robert Ross, Kathryn McKiernan, Sinead Ni Churnain, Sinead Kennedy and Industry's Michelle McGrath.

Barretstown also launched its 2010 General Awareness DVD on the day.
