Party-boy Dave Murphy certainly wasn't crying into his pint in the wake of the shock news that his ex-girlfriend had got engaged.
As exclusively revealed in the Diary this week, singer Morgan Deane (26) is over the moon after her cricketer boyfriend Graeme Smith popped the question.
After a whirlwind romance lasting less than two months, the South African captain asked the model to marry him during his holiday in Ireland.
However, her former long-term partner Dave was putting on a brave face over the weekend in the face of the surprise proposal -- which has set tongues wagging on the social scene.
The businessman, who is just back from a trip to South Africa, spent the weekend out with pals as he was seen in celebrity nightclubs Krystle and The Pink.
He was spotted out with glamorous pals Olivia Kenealy and Eimear Kelly looking like he hadn't a care in the world while out on Saturday night.
The previous night he was seen in Krystle with good friend Mark Kershaw as they downed pints together for a catch up.
Yet a close friend said the strapping socialite was surprised on hearing that his former girlfriend of more than a year was engaged.
"Of course he was shocked, everyone was," she said.
"They've only been going out for about two months and Morgan and Dave only split last December so it's come as a huge surprise.
But he knows that he just has to suck it up and move on."
He clearly hasn't been crying into his pint too much about their former relationship, given that he was recently linked with The Pink marketing manager Karen Houlihan. Fun-loving Dave, who's dubbed 'the modeliser', was also pictured hanging out with Miss Universe Ireland winner Rozanna Purcell after they met up during his recent trip to Cape Town.
He has spent the past three weeks on business in the South African city but has now returned home to Dublin.
Meanwhile, no date has been set yet for the nuptials between Morgan and her cricketer boyfriend.
She described herself as the "luckiest girl in the world" and has been inundated with messages from friends and family wishing her well.
Her other half asked her to marry him after a week-long trip in Ireland, meeting her family and friends in her home town of Cork.
