Danny and Tom fight back the tears as they get set to axe acts

Coaches Tom Jones and Danny O'Donoghue struggle to hold back tears as the upset of axing their own acts becomes too much.

The pair are both overcome with emotion as they come to terms with the heartbreak of losing their acts as the battle rounds draw to a close, knowing there is little chance of a lifeline.

Viewers will tonight see Script frontman O'Donoghue crumble when he faces choosing between Nadeem Leigh and Karl Michael to decide who survives in the contest in the British version of The Voice.

After hearing them go head-to-head performing Daniel Merriweather's top-10 hit Red, Danny is visibly upset and has tears in his eyes as he explains: "All I asked for was emotion. And you gave that and so much more. And I'm an idiot for putting you together."

And as he prepares to send one of them home he says: "What's tough is that they both genuinely deserve the next stage."

To make matters worse, he also knows the other coaches have used up their "steal" options to give some of the competitors a second chance.

Tom has to choose between Alys Williams and Adele tribute act Lareena Mitchell.

After they sing Laura Marling's Rambling Man he tells them: "I thought they were both beautiful."
