Dannii follows Ronan to reveal split from partner

SINGER Dannii Minogue is the latest celebrity to follow in the footsteps of Ronan and Yvonne Keating.

The 40-year-old mum-of-one is said to be heartbroken after herself and partner of four years Kris Smith confirmed their split last night.

The former X Factor mentor took to her social networking site to tell fans the sad news that she and model Kris, the father of her son Ethan, are no longer an item.

"It brings me great sadness to tell you that Kris and I have separated. We still care for each other and ask for privacy at this difficult time, in particular for our son Ethan who remains our number one priority."

She thanked her followers for their "continued support", stating that she needs to "retreat" for a while to come to terms with the break up.

Meanwhile, Kris also posted a statement on Twitter.

"Dannii and I have a deep mutual love and respect for each other and although things have not worked out we have a gorgeous son together that we both love and implore everyone to respect our privacy at this challenging time."

Pals close to Australia's Got Talent judge Dannii have revealed that the petite brunette tried to save her relationship with 33-year-old Kris, despite rumours that he was unfaithful.

The pair met at a nightclub in Ibiza in 2008 and in June 2011 issued a statement that they were still together, following reports of Kris's infidelity.

"At some point, you have to admit defeat ... she gave so much up for Kris. Part of her decision to leave the UK and move full time to Australia was because of his insistence that his career was in Australia," a source divulged, adding that Dannii turned down an offer to appear on Simon Cowell's X Factor last year because of the distance it would put between her and Kris.

It is rumoured that TV sports presenter Kris moved out of the couple's lavish home in Melbourne nearly two weeks ago.

It comes only days after Boyzone star Ronan (35) confirmed that himself and wife of 14 years Yvonne had gone their separate ways.

In an attempt to throw himself into work, dad-of-three Ronan jetted off to London with pals Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch and Mikey Graham last night.

The trio were seen hurrying through Heathrow airport to discuss a possible 20-year anniversary album.
