College beauty Holly oozes charm, just like her gran Terry

Recognise that winning charm? Meet Holly Carpenter, the 22-year-old winner of Miss University 2011.

The National College of Art and Design student scooped the title last night at a ceremony in Dublin venue Dandelion.

Holly's natural poise and charm is obviously an inheritance from her grandmother, Terry Keane. The newspaper columnist shocked the nation when she revealed on TV that she was Charlie Haughey's mistress.

"My granny died over two years ago and I would love her to see me now," she said. "But I know she would be so proud of me," Holly added.

She was just six years old when Terry told Gay Byrne and the Late Late viewers about her affair with Mr Haughey. Holly is the daughter of Terry's daughter, Jane Carpenter, who was given up for adoption when she was born. Three months after Jane's birth, Keane married Ronan Keane, who went on to become Chief Justice.

Jane later tracked down her birth mother and in 1985 they were reunited and formed a close relationship. Terry died from cancer in 2008.

Her grand-daughter is now carrying her star quality on by signing up with John Compton's model agency.

And the beauty has already put down a marker on what she is and isn't willing to do for her career.

"I won't be doing any bikini-on-Grafton-Street work," she said. "Not that I see anything wrong with it. It's a personal choice... but I just won't be doing it."
