RTE's Claire Byrne has revealed how her other half popped the question while doing the dishes.

The journalist is due to walk down the aisle with Gerry Scollan – the father to her four-month-old son, Patrick.

But far from serenading her over a candlelit dinner, her beau went down on bended knee while engaged in domestic chores. "I should make up a really romantic story," she said. "He was loading the dishwasher and said, 'Will we get married so?'

"And I said to him, 'Are you proposing?' He said yes. And I said, Yes I will!' And that was it." She met her fiancé during a night out in O'Donoghue's pub on Merrion Row, where the smitten IT consultant asked for her phone number.

They first went public on their romance at the Peter Mark VIP Style Awards and were engaged a year later.

The Prime Time host is looking forward to making things official some time this year. "We'll do it at some stage, possibly by the end of the year. I'm just not sure when. It will be a small celebration with just family and close friends," she said.
