City's ambitious Shauna tipped to become the next Imelda May

A singer from the Liberties is being tipped to follow in Imelda May's footsteps and become a global singing sensation.

Shauna O'Reilly has set her sights on being the next chart-topper to come out of the inner city neighbourhood.

The 20-year-old -- who goes by the stage name Beauella -- kick-started her career over the summer and has won widespread praise.

"It all began in August and we can't believe how well it's been going, it's fantastic for her," said proud mum Jackie Shannon.

Following her debut performance on Kildare TV where she gave a rendition of her first single Body On The Floor, the budding popstar was asked to take to the stage for the annual Share A Dream concert in the RDS on August 20.

Since then, the pint-sized beauty has appeared on national radio shows, performed at the Karaoke World Championships in Killarney and been a guest presenter slot on RTE's kids programme Elev8.

"It's been an amazing journey, we're in the midst of a lot of exciting meetings building the Beauella brand. I've worked very hard to find my niche in the industry and I feel like we're making ground," said Shauna, who is reported to be in the line-up for RTE's The Voice.

Shauna left school after completing her Junior Cert to pursue singing full-time.

After two years studying in the Monkstown College of Dance, she travelled to London to enrol in a three-year course at Performers College.

"My mum was a great influence and inspired me to follow my dreams -- I owe so much to her," Shauna said.

Now the songstress is starting to make waves and is gearing up to rub shoulders with teen hits Jedward as she takes on the headlining slot at Ireland's first Toy Show Experience -- in aid of Temple Street hospital.

She's also been tipped by bookmakers as Ireland's answer to Justin Bieber, after TV execs in the US expressed an interest in her talent.

"After her performance in Killarney, people from American network ABC got in touch with us about doing a documentary -- things are really moving along - the plan is to air something in 2012," Jackie revealed.

"Getting exposure on such a big station over in America would be amazing, I've always planned on launching my career over there as I think I'm very suited to that market," she said.
