Choice Music Prize is won by Two Door Cinema Club

A BAND whose music is already well known through a series of mobile phone ads and Playstation games has won one of the most prestigious awards in music.

Two Door Cinema Club scooped the Choice Music Prize for their debut record Tourist History at Dublin's Vicar Street venue last night.

The trio beat stiff competition to win the album of the year, including the Mercury nominees the Villagers and Meteor Award winner Imelda May.

The Co Down band -- Alex Trimble, Kevin Baird and Sam Halliday -- said they would donate the €10,000 prize to charity. "This is amazing, we have never won anything ever," lead singer Alex told the audience, including singer Morrissey and GGA star Paul Galvin.

Tourist History has been acclaimed internationally and many of its singles have featured on television, for Vodafone and Meteor adverts as well as for the soundtrack of video games FIFA 11 and Gran Turismo 5.

The Herald and a handful of music critics voted for the award, which was presented after nine of the 10 nominated acts performed at sold-out show.
