HIS 'Best Of' album has reached number one in the Irish music charts, but Dubliner Damien Dempsey (inset) has just packed his bags and left the country for the next eight weeks.
The Donaghmede native touched down in Australia earlier this week to begin a two-month tour.
"I've been three times now in a year and it's amazing, we get a pretty good reception over there," Damien told the Diary.
As well as touring down under, Damien is composing songs for a new documentary about Irish workers overseas.
"It's a challenge for me, but it's exciting too – you have to challenge yourself," he said.
Before jetting off, Damien celebrated his album reaching No1 by sharing a bottle of bubbly with family and director pal Mark O'Connor.
The musician teamed up with the film-maker for the second time recently, contributing to the soundtrack for Stalker, starring Peter Coonan and Barry Keoghan.
"I knew it was going to take someone who has a loved for Ireland to use my music, and I'm delighted about that," Damien said.
