HOLLYWOOD actress Charlize Theron has taken on her biggest role yet - she has become a mother.
The 36-year-old Oscar winner has followed in the footsteps of Sandra Bullock and Madonna, by adopting a baby boy.
The leggy blonde's spokesperson released a statement to confirm the happy news that the former model is now a single parent.
"Charlize Theron has adopted a child. She is the proud mom of a healthy baby boy named Jackson."
No further details have been released.
Charlize split from her long-term boyfriend, Irish actor Stuart Townsend (39), in 2010.
The couple were together for nine years and many expected the pair to marry.
Meanwhile, Charlize has often spoken about her desire to have a child. The Young Adult star has talked openly about the idea of adoption being an appealing option for her and told a German magazine in August 2011.
"I want a baby. If it would happen tomorrow I would be very happy.
"There are so many unwanted children on this earth and it's our job to care for them. And if we don't, we're doing the world a disservice," she added.
Earlier this year she was spotted cradling a friend's baby and appeared completely at ease as she held the child close to her chest, at a photoshoot for Snow White And The Huntsman.
The first-time mum was pictured yesterday celebrating her latest role of motherhood with A-list pals at a star-studded luncheon in LA.
Dressed in a black low-cut dress with pleats on the skirt, the tall beauty was all smiles for the cameras and looked delighted as she chatted among friends, including mum-of-one Katie Holmes, at trendy hotspot the Soho House in Tinseltown.
Ms Theron was raised in South Africa and soared to global fame following roles in 1990s films such as Mighty Joe Young and The Cider House Rules.
In 2003 she bagged herself the Best Actress gong at the Academy Awards, for her real-life portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos, in Monster.
