Jesse James is seeking professional help to deal with "personal issues" after a cheating scandal that has put his nearly five-year marriage to Sandra Bullock on the line.
His representative have told People magazine in a statement today that James "realised that this time was crucial to help himself, help his family and help save his marriage".
The representative did not specify the type of treatment facility.
Bullock was on a career high that culminated with a best actress Oscar win for The Blind Side just before internet rumours of James's infidelity surfaced.
The two walked hand-in-hand down the red carpet at the Oscars, celebrated together at the parties afterwards and were photographed outside a Long Beach burger joint the day after the awards.
Earlier this month, Bullock won the best actress Oscar at the awards and the couple looked the picture of happiness, just before the rumours began to spread.
As her husband tearfully looked on, Bullock dedicated the award to him in a touching acceptance speech, thanking him for accompanying her to the awards ceremony, despite the fact that he wasn't comfortable amid the Hollywood glamour.
A call placed to James's representative after business hours was not immediately returned.
