Bressie has 'delicate' head as he celebrates protege Pat's win of stunning €100k record deal

THE VOICE of Ireland coach Bressie admitted he had a "very delicate" head this morning after celebrating Pat Byrne's win.

Part-time music teacher Pat from Carlow was the star winner and walked away with a dazzling €100,000 recording contract with Universal Music.

Pat (22) beat Richie Hayes into second and opera star Vanessa Whelan into third to take the crown as The Voice of Ireland.

Former Blizzards frontman Niall Breslin urged fans to forget voting along team lines.

"Guys, won't wreck your heads anymore. Forget teams, coaches etc. Vote for who honestly you think has best voice," he said before tweeting 'vote Pat Byrne'.

But gravelly-voiced star Pat said that he has his girlfriend to thank for even getting through the application process.

He said that it was his other half Maria Leacy who suggested that he should enter the competition in the first place.

"I sat down to fill out the form and it was about 17 pages long so I said, 'I can't do that'. I'm too lazy so she took it and filled it out for me," Pat revealed.

"It just hit me that I will have a record deal, I will have a job.

"I blanked out when they called my name and head-butted Bressie and he ripped my jacket. This has been the best experience of my life."

Pat, a huge Bruce Springsteen fan, said that he would like to make an album of original songs, if the record company agrees.

The red-haired crooner beat off competition from 1,800 contestants and booked his place in the final over the last 25 weeks.

He has already scored a number one with his version of What A Wonderful World.

"I have to thank my girlfriend Maria who put me through this in the first place," Pat added.

"It's hard to believe I'm going to be making an album."

His coach Bressie, who instantly hit the red button when Pat started singing in the blind auditions, said that he has high hopes for the Borris singer.

"We all saw his potential but now he knows this is the career he wants. He just got better and better as the show went on," he said.

And reality show supremo Louis Walsh also said that Pat Byrne has the "kind of voice that could make millions".

"He really does have that young Bruce Springsteen vibe," he said.

"I was really impressed with the finalists and Pat definitely has something special.

"Pat will go far if he gets the right management -- I want Bressie to keep his promise and turn this guy into a star.

"The best two guys made it to the finals," he added. "I'd love to see Richie go for the X Factor. I really think he has the voice and the personality to do it. He has a great stage presence and would have been a worthy winner too."

All of the contestants partied long into the early hours of the morning at The Gibson Hotel in Dublin for an exclusive aftershow bash.

This morning Pat and Bressie appeared on Ryan Tubridy's show to talk about the final.

"Massive hugs to those of ye that voted for Pat Byrne," he wrote online. "Off to talk to Tubs in RTE2fm now with a verrrrry delicate ceann."
