Bono in running to be Mo's new best pal as two bond over causes

A NEW bromance has come to the Diary's attention, namely chart-topping star Bono and British Olympic hero Mo Farah.

They don't seem like the most likely lads to strike up a friendship but apparently they met at the recent GQ Awards in London and got on like a house on fire.

The pair bonded over their mutual interest in fundraising, given that the athlete set up the Mo Farah Foundation to help impoverished people in East Africa.

A subject close to the athlete's heart, he recently held his first annual fundraising ball -- and Bono has now joined a string of celebrities who have given Mo their support.

The pint-sized singer even invited Mo back to an uber-exclusive party he was having in a friend's pad in London after the GQ Awards, but the athlete sensibly declined in order to put his twins Aisha and Amani to bed.

However, Bono wasn't short of well-known pals at the A-list bash, which saw a host of Olympic heroes partying the night away with the Killiney-based crooner.

Attendees included Greg Rutherford, Louis Smith, Christine Ohuruogu, alongside British personalities like Sacha Baron Cohen, Alan Carr and Liam Gallagher.

Taking place in the north-west London home of PR guru Matthew Freud, guests quaffed copious amounts of Cristal champagne while tucking into delicate canapes. Once the party was in full swing, guests were led down to a basement which housed a sprawling playroom including a ping-pong table.

However, disaster struck at around 3.30am when they realised they had run out of cigarettes -- and a butler was promptly dispatched to buy some more.
