A WOMAN who was born just three days after the Titanic sank has celebrated her 100th birthday with a huge family party in Leopardstown.
Katherine Berns' eight children, 18 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren all toasted her health along with her brothers and sisters -- the youngest of whom is 89.
Her daughter Kathleen said her mother enjoyed the party. "She is very alert and was living on her own in Rathcoole up to less than a year ago."
Katherine is now a resident in Marley Nursing Home.
Born Katherine Weldon in Brownstown, Co Kildare, the eldest of 10 children, she moved to Newcastle and then Carrickmines when she got married.
She had three sons and four daughters and was widowed in 1964. In more recent years she moved to Rathcoole.
