Baby joy comes naturally to Cold Feet actor John

Cold Feet star John Thomson and his wife Samantha have shown off their second daughter Sophia Melody -- who was conceived naturally following three failed IVF attempts.

Thomson, who was recently on screens as Jesse Chadwick in Coronation Street, vowed he would install "machine gun turrets" on his front gate when his daughter reached her teens, in order to keep boys away.

Their baby was delivered by Caesarean in March, weighing in at 7lb 7oz.

The couple agreed that the actor should be the one to cut the cord and to reveal the baby's sex.

Sophia was lifted into her mother's arms to the strains of Elvis Presley singing, That's All Right (Mama).

"I said it was a girl," said Thomson, "and Sam burst into tears."

Thomson, who has battled drink problems in the past, said in the interview with Hello! magazine that he has not touched a drop in three and a half years.

He said: "I can honestly say I don't miss it. Everyone knows I'm reliable again."
