Baby is a wonderful gift says mum-to-be Leigh

TV beauty Leigh Arnold has described her pregnancy as the "most wonderful gift" and says she has never been happier.

The former Clinic actress (32) broke her silence on her baby news to tell the Diary how she is over the moon about becoming a first-time mum with her Manchester fiance Steve Davies.

"I'm nearly 20 weeks gone and I've been really lucky, touch wood. I've had no morning sickness at all and I've never felt so healthy in my whole life," she said.

"I have been tired -- there's some days you feel like you've just run a marathon -- but I haven't had any nausea and I've had some friends who had terrible morning sickness during the early months but I've been fine.

"I've had no weird cravings at all but I can't get enough of healthy things like avocados, peaches and mandarins and doing lots of yoga."

And the well-known stage and TV actress decided to buck the current trend among Ireland's celebrity mums by keeping her good news to herself for as long as she could.

"Obviously, all my family knew and all my good friends but I didn't want to make this big announcement about it. It's been lovely having our own little secret that's just ours to enjoy.

"I've been flying in and out of Ireland on secret visits to my gynaecologist and I thought I'd never get away with it for as long as I did. But I've got a little bump now so there's definitely no hiding it anymore. We're absolutely thrilled," she continued.

She now joins a growing list of Dublin socialites, such as Virginia Macari, Tara O'Connor, Rachel Kavanagh and Jenny Buckley, who are all in the first-time mum club.

Leigh, who got engaged to her businessman partner last September after moving to Britain a year ago, said it's lovely being able to talk to her pregnant pals about their own experiences and said she has never felt better.

She added how she has decided against finding out the sex of her baby but "has a good feeling" about whether it's a boy or a girl.

Leigh also reckons she'll probably give birth in Britain but is definitely coming home to spend Christmas with her tight-knit family in Foxrock.

Her mum Mona, model sister Chloe and brother Nicky and Simon Arnold are all "really excited" about the baby, given that it's the first Arnold grandchild, as is her dad John.

"It's going to be the most spoiled baby ever!" Leigh added.
