Baby Gia 'a special gift' says Nicky

HIT presenter Nicky Byrne has spoken of his delight that wife Georgina gave birth to a baby girl.

The former Westlife singer was over the moon by the arrival of daughter Gia in Holles Street this week.

But speaking for the first time since the birth, Nicky revealed how he and his wife, having used up his favourite male names on twins Rocco and Jay, were delighted to name the couple's 6lb 9oz daughter Gia.

"We had Gia for a long time. But because we didn't know if it was a boy or girl until she was born, we didn't know which way it was going.

"We had been struggling a bit with a boys name because we had our two boys with our favourite names long ago. To get a third boy would have been a bit of a challenge," Nicky told 2fm.

The Malahide-based TV host explained how the name was Italian meaning God is gracious – which the couple hope will work for Gia growing up.

However the 35-year-old has instructed twins Jay and Rocco, they will have to protect their little sister.

"Slowly I had been prepping them. We didn't want to tell them too quickly and put them all out of sorts.

"But they've gradually come around to the idea and because it's a girl they now know that they don't need to share their toys and they're very happy with that."

The father-of-three said he had "fallen in love all over again" with Gia and has already noticed the difference between having a boy and a girl.

"Every little touch of her hands and her foot, it's different to a boy. We're just delighted, it's a very special gift and we're absolutely buzzing at the moment."

He revealed how Georgina, daughter of former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, will stay in for "two or three" days in hospital before leaving and finding "there's more pink around the house".
