A record haul for Children in Need

THIS year's Children in Need fundraising extravaganza raised a record ¤30m.

The figure was announced at the end of the six-hour charity marathon at 2am today.

Host Terry Wogan said: "That is the most we have ever made in one night, thank you."

The sum was ¤9m more more than last year.

The BBC One show featured JLS, Lord Sugar, Gok Wan, the cast of The Wizard Of Oz and four BBC newsreaders.

Boyband One Direction kicked off the event with single, What Makes You Beautiful.

Tess Daly, Alesha Dixon and Fearne Cotton posed as Charlie's Angels as Destiny's Child's Independent Women blasted out in the studio. Matt Baker arrived after cycling from Edinburgh to London.
