A new chapter as Keyes beats illness

Best-selling author Marian Keyes has started writing again after enduring a lengthy battle with depression.

In good news for her worried fans, the popular author appears to be on the road to recovery following her brave admission about her illness.

However, she is still battling to return to full health and is not up for marking her 47th birthday today.

"She's not perfect but she's doing okay... We're going to go out for a quiet dinner, something low key," said her devoted husband Tony Baines.

Over the past six months the literary star has taken a step back from the limelight and hasn't put out a monthly newsletter since last May.

However, Tony explained the fact that she has started work on a new book is a clear sign that she is starting to feel better.

"She's doing a little bit more writing, which is good because she wasn't at all before so she's thrilled to be doing that again," he said.

He went on to say how she has been overwhelmed by the level of support she received from her fans around the world.

The author of number one hits, including Watermelon and This Charming Man, has described her bouts of depression as "living in hell".
