2FM wants more women. . . but not Aoibhinn

HE wants to promote more women on the airwaves, but Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain is not in 2FM boss Dan Healy's sights.

Healy is giving the RTE station an overhaul in order to boost the listenership figures.

Although her Radio One programme Aoibhinn and Company has ended and the Mayo native is keen to do more, Ni Shuilleabhain (30) has so far not been approached to join 2FM's new line-up.

"If there are more opportunities that would be great, I loved my show and I really like doing radio," she said.

While Ni Shuilleabhain may not be working alongside boyfriend Ryan Tubridy in the coming months, the Herald understands that The Voice of Ireland presenter Eoghan McDermott is on the list of newcomers to join 2FM.

McDermott will be put in the spotlight when Healy unveils the revamped programming schedule in the coming weeks.

A source said: "Eoghan has been successful on TV for RTE and the radio heads are definitely looking at that area when thinking of who could make the transition to radio.

"That's what happened with Jennifer Maguire and Bernard O'Shea – they bring in ratings with Republic of Telly, so Dan obviously feels that they can deliver on the airwaves too."

Meanwhile, former Rose of Tralee contestant Ni Shuilleabhain is still very much a part of the broadcaster's television department and has just seen her TV series Science Squad get the green light for a third season.
